★ 5-Star Quality Rating

What it means in practice — and how we keep it.

About our 5-star rating

  • Is Harmony Focus really a 5-star rated daycare?

    +

Yes. Harmony Focus is rated at the highest tier of Oklahoma's Reaching for the Stars Quality Rating & Improvement System, administered by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services — Child Care Services (OKDHS-CCS). Our license is current and in good standing, and we're happy to share documentation during a tour or by phone at (405) 763-8853.

  • What does the 5-star rating actually mean for my child day-to-day?

    +

In practice, 5-star means your child gets more individual attention and a stronger learning experience than baseline licensing requires. That includes lower child-to-teacher ratios and smaller groups (1:4 infants, 1:6 toddlers, 1:12 preschool or better), more qualified lead teachers (credentialed or actively pursuing CDA/associate's/bachelor's in early childhood education), a research-based curriculum (Creative Curriculum plus nature-based learning) intentionally mapped to the Oklahoma Early Learning Guidelines, ongoing observational assessment of each child's growth, Conscious-Discipline-style positive guidance (never shaming or physical discipline), structured family engagement, and a secure, safety-trained environment.

  • How is a 5-star center different from a regular licensed daycare?

    +

Every licensed daycare must meet Oklahoma's baseline health, safety, and ratio rules. A 5-star center has to exceed those baselines across multiple categories — staff qualifications and ongoing professional development, lower ratios and group sizes, research-based curriculum implementation, documented child progress, and active family engagement — and prove it on an ongoing basis. The state's star levels exist specifically so parents can tell the difference at a glance.

  • Is the 5-star rating permanent, or do you have to re-earn it?

    +

It's not a one-time award. OKDHS Child Care Services monitors licensed programs through unannounced inspections, complaint follow-ups, and periodic Reaching for the Stars reviews. To stay at the top tier we have to keep meeting every criterion — every year. We treat 5-star as a floor, not a ceiling.

  • How do you maintain your 5-star rating year over year?

    +

Several practices, all happening continuously: (1) every team member completes — and exceeds — the annual training hours OKDHS requires in child development, health & safety, CPR/First Aid, and mandated-reporter topics, and we track it internally; (2) leadership does regular classroom walk-throughs using quality-rating-style checklists covering environment, interactions, curriculum, and family engagement, and addresses gaps quickly; (3) we hold our low ratios and group sizes even when waitlists are long — over-enrolling a classroom is the fastest way to lose 5-star status, and we won't compromise; (4) annual parent surveys and conference feedback feed directly into our improvement plan; (5) facility upkeep, sanitation, and drill schedules are documented and audited between state visits; and (6) licensing files, training certificates, child files, and incident logs are kept current and ready for inspection at any time.

  • What happens if a 5-star center slips below standards?

    +

OKDHS can require a corrective action plan, lower a center's star level, or take licensing action if standards aren't met. That's exactly why we run the internal checks above — so issues are caught and corrected long before they ever reach an inspection. If you ever have a specific concern, call us directly at (405) 763-8853; we'd rather hear it from you first.

  • Can I see proof of your 5-star rating and DHS license?

    +

Absolutely. We can show you our current OKDHS license and Reaching for the Stars documentation in person during a tour, and we're happy to walk you through what each item means. Call (405) 763-8853 or schedule a tour from our enrollment page.
